We are a Sustainable Lodging Property

  Nh Sustainable Lodging

We, innkeepers at Cranmore Mountain Lodge, have been long time believers and supporters of sustainable living, long before they even started talking about global warming. In France, we've been raised with the respect of what nature offers us, from organic farms to being very concerned about recycling and reducing our carbone footprint. As a business, and more specifically a Bed and Breakfast, it allows us to teach our guests easy ways to be environmentaly friendly guests (and persons when you come back home), show them that even on vacation, nature should always be respected, and share with them our efforts, ideas and projects to become a better sustainable lodging property. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are a wonderful heritage and we are proud to participate  in educating and raising awareness on ways to preserve their beauty and keep it the way we and you love it for many generations to come.

How do we do this?

  • We recycle as much as we can: newspapers, paper, plastic, aluminum and tin cans, glass, corrugated boxes... Please use the recycling bins that are in our kitchen, as well as those in the outdoor porch. Keep recyclable items out of your garbage can in your room so that our staff can properly dispose of them.
  • We reuse stained and old towels and linens as cleaning rags;
  • We use recycled toilet paper and kitchen towels;
  • We refill the amenity shampoos that are in each room;
  • We offer make-up removal towels so that our guests don't stain our cotton towels, to avoid using bleach in the laundry;
  • We use as many environmentally friendly cleaning products as possible;
  • During your stay with us, we won't change your towels or linens unless you ask us to, even for a long stay;
  • When appliances need to be replaced (such as air conditioners, TV, DVD, computer, washer, dryer...) we replace them with Energy Star Models;
  • We replace used lighting with low energy bulbs (not only in the corridors and common rooms, but in each guest room as well) to save energy, and dispose of fluorescent light tubes properly;
  • We use natural light whenever it is possible.
  • We encourage "green" activities, such as hiking, biking, climbing, swimming, skiing... Check our packages ! We will never propose a snowmobile package!
  • We grow an organic vegetable garden, and use only organic fertilizers (such as our own compost); If you come in Summer, you can taste some of our home-grown produce;
  • Our breakfast is prepared with as many local and New Hampshire produces as possible.
  • We water our vegetables and flowers only when necessary. We NEVER water the grass.
  • We plant flowers and shrubs that are mostly perennials and adapted to our area, in order to reduce watering.
  • We use single sided waste paper as office notepads (to take your reservations or print your registration papers!);

We are member of the New Hamsphire Sustainable Lodging and Restaurant Program .

Please click here  to learn more about how you can join us with these efforts during your stay with us. Being a green hotel is an on-going effort and we welcome any of your comments and suggestions.

How can you help us?

  • Recycle as much as you can. Dispose of your recyclable items in the containers in our kitchen or porch area.
  • Turn all the lights off when you leave your room;
  • Turn the air conditioning or heater off or to a minimum when you leave your room; Don't forget to turn off the TV as well!
  • Close the windows when the air conditioning or heater is on;
  • Reuse your room towels and linens; the bed linen won't be changed during your stay with us, unless you ask for it;
  • Reuse your pool towels;
  • Don't use our towels to remove your make up (they will need to be bleached if you do so). This is why we provide make-up removal towelettes.
  • Don't throw away our shampoo bottles. We will refill them with quality shampoo!
  • If you need extra towels to clean up your car or your dog, please ask us and we'll gladly provide you with rags.
  • After using the outdoor hot tub, turn back down the temperature to 96 and put the lid back on;
  • If you use our common areas in the evening, turn off all the lights when you leave;
  • We provide you with plastic glasses in your room. If we find them out of your trashcan, we won't dispose of them;
  • Let us know when a faucet or toilet is leaking so that we can fix it;
  • Don't throw away the brochures you are not taking with you: we will place them back on our brochure rack.

Thank you!
